Charging cables AND THE APPROPRIATE COMPONENTS FOR CORRECT CHARGING

The extensive range of individual components completes the unique WALTHER-WERKE product portfolio for the electromobility charging infrastructure. It includes charging cables, charging sockets, charger couplings and charge controllers, as well as all testing equipment.

Charging cables

The charging cable establishes the electrical connection between the charging station and the electric vehicle. It includes the matching charger plug to the charger socket (Type 2) for pluggable charging cables and, on the vehicle side, a charger coupling (Type 1 or Type 2) to match the charger plug. IEC 62196 and IEC 61851 standards allow charging currents of 13, 16/20, 32 or 63 A. Depending on the vehicle, weight and handling appropriate charging cables are available. The type of charger coupling is selected according to the vehicle, as is the maximum charging current and cable length.

Charging sockets

WALTHER offers EVOLUTION and ECO SLIM versions of the new Type 2 charging sockets.

The EVOLUTION charging socket fits perfectly with the new design approach of the charging stations and wall boxes of the same name; it combines them with extensive finishes and functions.

The extremely compact ECO SLIM version is the smallest charging socket on the market, designed for minimal installation space. This makes it ideal for use in small enclosures, lampposts and other confined installation environments.

Charging and connection cables with full communication

When connected to the charging station or wall box, charging cables guarantee standardised safety with an integrated residual current circuit breaker and additional cable protection. They are used for all new generation vehicles and allow charging from 13 A to 32 A. On many OEM projects, connection cables with open cable ends and a fixed charging connection to wall boxes or charging stations are used. .WALTHER-WERKE specialises in providing bespoke solutions.

Relevant standards for charging devices in the field of electromobility

Standards are essential prerequisites of properly functioning and future-oriented electric mobility, in order to ensure compatibility amongst systems and rapid dissemination across borders.

IEC 62196-1 and IEC62196-2 charging connections for the conductive charging of electric vehicles

These standards describe the requirements on plugs, sockets, vehicle couplings, vehicle plugs and prefabricated cables for electric vehicles that are used for cable-based charging systems. Section IEC 62196-2 describes the plug types for connections to alternating and three-phase current.

IEC 62196-2 "Typ 1"

Single-phase vehicle coupling, developed in Japan and the USA, mainly for the first generation of vehicles.

IEC 62196-2 "Typ 2"

Charging sockets, charging plugs, vehicle coupling for 1 and 3-phase charging in Europe.

IEC 62196-2 "Typ 3"

1 and 3-phase charging equipment for the charging infrastructure in France and Italy.

IEC 62196-3

Charging equipment for the conductive charging of electric vehicles with direct current.

Test equipment

With the EV Tester/Simulator, the status of an electric vehicle at any AC charging station can be simulated. An EV Tester for Type 1 and Type 2 plugs and sockets can be easily used to check the correct functioning of a charging station or wall box after installation or during servicing.

The coding resistance of Type 2 charging connectors, as well as control resistors and switching functions are checked at the Type 1 vehicle connector.
The advantage: In combination with corresponding measuring equipment, a complete DGUV test can be carried out.
