MORE THAN JUST A SIMPLE CEE PLUG CONNECTION Ready for construction industry 4.0 with NEO IPD

The new standards of the construction industry demand future-proof further developments and innovations. The main issue here is that machines and equipment are becoming increasingly intelligent. All essential system components are clearly identifiable, know their status and are able to interact with each other via a higher level.

The NEO IPD is our answer to these new standards: an innovative, smart further development of the simple CEE plug connection. Because with the NEO IPD, you can already check the available voltage source before commissioning your connected devices. The LED display on the plug immediately shows you their status. Errors and defects are also visualised reliably and directly on the plug. The practical aspect: You can use the NEO IPD both in stand-alone operation and permanently connected to your end devices.

Full transparency for user safety and device protection

The NEO IPD is equipped with electronic components that record information about the rotating field, the phase, neutral and protective conductor contacting, as well as the temperature in the connector housing. The integrated LEDs visualise the individual states.

Another great advantage is that you can also permanently connect the NEO IPD. As a user, you thus have a reliable and permanent status assessment on site at all times. This is because faults and defects at the respective connection point are also displayed to you immediately. This enables you to react in good time and to rectify faults efficiently before system damage or failures occur in the distribution. With the NEO IPD, you increase your operational safety and reliably protect your existing equipment. This saves you time and money.

areas of application and fields of use construction industry and safety-relevant fields of application

The possible range of applications is wide.

The NEO IPD is used primarily in the construction industry and in areas similar to construction sites. Mainly on machines where the direction of rotation plays an important role, such as screed silos, circular saws, concrete mixers, extractors, etc. . But also for systems that are in continuous operation (such as construction dryers, groundwater pumps, etc.). The NEO IPD is therefore predestined for use in particularly safety-relevant and promising fields of application.

Product highlights all advantages at a glance

Permanently connectable Enables permanent monitoring of the voltage source

For permanent connection to terminal devices for permanent monitoring of the available voltage source. Fulfils the regulations of the DGUV V3 test and enables the test to be carried out with the plug permanently connected. The test according to DGUV V3 is a legally prescribed safety test of electrical equipment to ensure that the equipment complies with the applicable safety regulations and does not pose a danger to users.

LED rotating field display for immediate error identification

With the LED rotating field display, you can see the direction of rotation of the connected terminal directly after plugging it in and before commissioning. Errors are indicated immediately. Manual and time-consuming measurement of the rotating field, which can only be carried out by a qualified electrician, is no longer necessary. Even as a layman, you can now see at a glance whether everything is in order. This saves you time and money!

Integrated temperature monitoring Protects devices in continuous operation

If you have devices that run continuously, such as construction dryers or groundwater pumps, they should run reliably and trouble-free without overheating. However, if unacceptable temperature increases should occur, the NEO IPD will provide you with a clear and immediate error indication on site. This allows you to react quickly in an emergency before major damage might be caused and longer downtimes occur.

Phase, neutral and protective conductor monitoring For increased safety

The NEO IPD detects malfunctions of the protective conductor. This can lead to the protective function of the RCD no longer being given. This poses a high safety risk.

With immediate fault diagnosis, NEO IPD offers you increased safety for personnel and system protection. And malfunctions of the phase and neutral conductors are also immediately apparent, which allows you to prevent a defect of the connected terminal equipment from the outset.

Integrated Bluetooth Mesh Module Ready for smart communication

A functional Bluetooth mesh module is already integrated in the NEO IPD, which will also enable you to perform centralised and remote condition monitoring in the future. The matching gateway and the IPD IoT software platform are currently still under development.

Your advantage: You do not have to retrofit the NEO IPD later. I.e. no upgrade is required for the device plug itself.

Use Cases NEO IPD in application

In our use cases, we show you three concrete use cases that demonstrate how you can specifically use the NEO IPD. And what practical advantages our intelligent plug offers you.

If you operate a terminal unit with a three-phase motor, the orientation of the rotating field determines its direction of rotation. If two phases are reversed, the direction of the field and thus the direction of rotation of the motor is reversed. This can cause the unit to overheat and be damaged.

If you want to exclude an undesired direction of the rotating field due to incorrect wiring, a rotating field measurement or test is necessary. However, this is usually very time-consuming and can only be carried out by a qualified electrician. For this purpose, the specialist uses a rotating field tester that must be contacted manually with all phases at the same time.

With the NEO IPD, this is now a thing of the past. Even as a layman, you can now quickly and easily detect faults in the direction of the rotating field without having to put the terminal device into operation beforehand or have a manual rotating field test carried out by an electrotechnical specialist. To do this, simply connect the NEO IPD between the terminal device and the supply network. And the integrated LED display on the plug immediately shows you whether the rotating field direction is correct. This saves you a lot of time during the test. And you quickly and easily prevent possible damage to your end devices and thus avoid expensive follow-up costs and downtimes.

If you have devices that run in continuous operation, such as construction dryers or groundwater pumps, then they must run reliably, safely and without malfunctions over a longer period of time. Although these devices are basically designed for continuous operation, malfunctions can occur during operation. For example, the integrated protective mechanisms may fail, causing the unit to overheat due to the high continuous load. The problem here is that the units usually do not have integrated controls that monitor certain temperature limits and indicate them at an early stage. Therefore, checking for overheating is currently not possible, or only possible at great expense. And the damage that can be caused by overheating should not be underestimated.

And this is where the NEO IPD comes into play. Because the NEO IPD has a visual and clear temperature display. So even as a layman, you can easily check at any time whether the connected terminal device is running trouble-free. A quick glance at the LED status display is enough to tell you whether the temperature is within the normal range.

The NEO IPD detects the temperature directly in the plug. If the temperature is below 60° C, the LED display lights up constantly white. If the temperature exceeds 60° C, all indicators on the plug start flashing red. You can now intervene directly and disconnect the unit from the mains before major damage occurs. With the NEO IPD, you increase your operational safety. And you increase your efficiency by reducing or completely avoiding downtimes.

You want to connect a pump and put it into operation. However, the protective conductor is missing from the pump without you noticing, which is usually caused by a break in the supply line at the end device. Now, during commissioning, another fault occurs: short-circuit of a phase with the housing, resulting in a body short. This results in an undesired connection between an active conductor that is live during normal operation and a part of the system (body) that is not normally live. This poses a very high safety risk! When touching the parts of the installation that are now live due to the body connection, the person can suffer considerable damage to his or her health due to an electric shock.

With the NEO IPD, you protect yourself and your employees. This is because you can tell even before the pump is switched on whether the protective earth conductor (PE) of the connection point is present or not. This eliminates the safety risk of electric shock from the outset.
